Frequently asked questions
Clear answers to the questions families and professionals ask most. If your question isn't here, just ask — we answer honestly.

In many cases support can begin within days of an assessment, depending on the level of care needed and current availability. Tell us your timeframe when you contact us and we will be honest about what is possible. Urgent hospital discharges are discussed as a priority.
Continuity matters, and we plan rotas around it. You can expect consistent, familiar care workers wherever possible, and you will be told in advance if someone different will be visiting.
An assessment is a structured conversation, usually at home, involving the person and anyone they want present. We discuss routines, preferences, risks and outcomes, agree what support is needed, and follow up with a written plan and clear costs before anything begins.
Costs depend on the level and pattern of support needed. We confirm any price in writing before care begins, with no hidden extras. If you are exploring council funding or direct payments, we can explain how that process works.
Yes. Recruitment includes identity, right-to-work and background checks, and staff complete induction training with competency sign-off before working independently. See our Care Standards page for the full detail.
Tell us. Concerns can be raised with any member of the team by phone, email or in writing, and we treat complaints seriously: acknowledged promptly, investigated properly, answered in full. Our complaints procedure is published on this website.
Yes. Short-term support — for example after a hospital stay or during a family holiday — is a normal part of what we provide, and it reduces as recovery and circumstances allow.
No. CDD provides the care and support within supported living arrangements — we are not a landlord or housing provider. Housing matters sit with the housing provider; we take care of the day-to-day support.
Yes. Dementia care at home focuses on familiar routines, patient communication, meaningful activity and risk-aware support, with consistent care workers. We also support family carers.
Yes — planned short-term cover lets unpaid carers rest, work or spend time with family while the person they support continues to receive appropriate care in their own routine.
CDD is based in Taunton and provides care across Somerset. Send us a postcode and we will confirm coverage honestly. See Areas We Cover for current detail.
Social workers, case managers, discharge teams and commissioners can use our referral enquiry form or contact the referrals team directly. We ask for the broad support level, area and timeframe — and never expect clinical detail through a standard web form.
